About The Trading Post Farm Shop
Welcome to The Trading Post Farm Shop – your local haven for real food, community spirit, and the very best of Somerset & the West Country.
Our Story
Hi!
I’m Kate!
Just before Christmas 2017, Andy and I became the proud new owners of The Trading Post Farm Shop.
After years in the ‘not-so-exciting’ field of property insurance events and exhibitions, I turned my back on the corporate world and pursued my passion – FOOD!
After managing a couple of deli’s in Windsor and Slough I moved in 2007, with Andy and Prickle (our Springer Spaniel), to Devon where I worked for a year at River Cottage in Axminster, We moved to South Petherton soon after and when I discovered the The Trading Post Farm Shop – the rest, as they say, is history!
When the original owner, Sue, decided to retired, I was offered first refusal to take over and its safe to say I leapt at the chance!
From the moment I walked through the door back in 2008 I felt a real connection – running The Trading Post has never felt like “just a job.”
Our Ethos
We believe in:
- Local & Organic: sourcing as much as possible from nearby farms and artisans
- Supporting Small Producers: keeping fresh lines moving, trying new suppliers, and giving local talent a platform
- Community First: building relationships with customers, suppliers, and staff
- Sustainability: Reducing waste with our milk dispensing and refillable dry goods
We continue to bring in new products based on customer requests and emerging food trends
We work with over 120 local suppliers, covering everything from meat, produce, plants, greetings cards, toiletries, gifts, and more
